In summer plumage contrasting black and white. Females and young with upperparts washed grey underparts dirty grey . In winterdress head sandy buffupperparts streaked brownish , under parts cream coloured. Female with small white patch on ing edge.

Habitat

Barren stony tundra , Rocky Coasts, Rocky mountaings also flocks in human settlements in winter

Seeds and Insects.

When does it Breed ?

May to July , 5 - 6 eggs, Incubation 12 - 14 days , young fledging at 10- 14 days. Nests in rock holes.
