Common Swift Moth (Hepialis lupulina)

Family: Hepialidae

Wingspan: 25-40 mm.

The markings of the forewings of the male vary a great deal uin distinctivness, with the femal having quite plain wings. The moths fly in June at dusk and are quite common in open country, except in Ireland where they are less common. The larvae feed on the roots of various grasses and other plants from late sumer until the following April when they Pupate. the larvae are light chestnut brown and live underground.
